Are aliens more or less advanced than us?

How advanced do you think other alien races are? Until the industrial revolution, we didn't advance much at all for thousands of years. It's possible that other races in the galaxy have a massive head start on us for this reason. On the other hand, it's also possible that not many races have even achieved conciousness let alone harnessed the power of electricity.

Another thing that's likely to be true is that they might be advanced in some areas, but backwards in others. For instance what if they have warp capability but still rely on swords for weapons? Or what if they still live in stone castles but have somehow figured out energy weapons?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Considering the vastness of the universe I'd imagine basically all of the above.

There could be aliens on a planet somewhere where there's not a single bird type creature that flies, therefore they've never thought of creating anything that flies.
But they might be extremely advanced in every other area.

Thinking of potentials from that perspective, I wonder what we've missed? Aside from stuff like religion holding us back I wonder what else is glaring us in the face, waiting to be invented/discovered.

Maybe we'll meet aliens one day and they'll have tech that makes us sit like "THAT'S SO OBVIOUS WHY DID WE NOT DO THAT"

Or they'll just destroy the Earth before we realize it to make way for a space highway.

Either way I'm sure many of them would be more advanced than us just because we're so f***ing stupid we spend half our time thinking of ways to kill or manipulate each other.

Don't wanna be the party pooper but... how are we even supposed to guess? There are 10^24 possible planets out there, and from this bunchload we should have at least a smaller bunchload of civilizations. With as many possibilities. If there is a greater civilization out there that's far more advanced and discovers us before we do, they'd probably be like 'Hey f***tards, we've been developing technology while you were busy arguing whose religion is better'.

Yeah, this is obviously impossible to answer. I would imagine that, assuming there are multiple alien life forms, there are races both more and less advanced than us.

I hope we don't turn out to be the most backward of all the species. That would be embarrassing.

I dunno Pel, it's kinda hard to top us as far as bad beings go.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

There's probably aliens in all stages of life. I imagine there are countless planets with only cellular life. Countless planets with only simple animals, countless planets with civilizations less advanced than us and countless civilizations more advanced than us.

If there were more advanced life forms out there than us. Why didn't they already discovered us? If they have spaceships that are far superior to ours. I think we are one of the most advanced.

The Fermi Paradox is the most probable reason why, if they exist, aliens haven't visited us.

A good read if you have nothing else to do.

How can we know they didn't? If there's one thing awesome about science, it's that it's not ignorant. We don't know about it =/= it doesn't exist at all. Maybe they visited us back then when we were homo erectuses. Maybe they discovered us during Middle Ages, saw that we believe all Universe revolves around our little planet and face-palmed themselves back into the space. Maybe we aren't even Universal VIPs to have every alien life form eager to meet us. Who knows for sure? Btw, great article, Emmeth.

Even if their spaceships are far superiour, why would you assume they could travel faster than the speed of light, perhaps that simply isn't possible. We also don't know how rare life on other planets is, perhaps the nearest advanced civilization is millions of lightyears away from us, we as humanity would never be able to contact them. And the same thing goes for them. Who knows, perhaps there are super advanced aliens looking at us now from 500 million light years away and they're seeing nothing more than some water and land without any life other than some possible bacteria and single-cell organisms.

There are plenty of reasons why they wouldn't have contacted us. There's the 'ant hill/superhighway' theory. When we build a superhighway, or anything, next to an ant hill, do the ants have any way of comprehending what is going on? And do we pay much attention to the ant hill when going about our business? In that situation, we could be the ants, and other life forms could be us. Like Ginyu said, we could also be too far away for them to reach us.

Then there's the possibility they have already contacted us, but did so before the earliest recorded history. Think of how quickly we've advanced as a civilisation. All they would have had to have done is catch us 10,000 years ago and they may well have just dismissed us as nothing. Or we might still be nothing.

Another possibility is that we've had visitors but they simply haven't got home yet, maybe some aliens have sent out "Scouts" millions of lightyears around the universe to discover stuff, who have yet to meet back up and report their findings since it'd take a long as time unless they had FTL travel or teleportation etc etc

I wouldn't say I 100% believe we have been visited but it sure seems like it, there's a crap ton of weird stuff in the sky and so many references in old texts, a lot of that will naturally just be stuff people didn't understand though.

I feel the same about aliens as I do about ghosts, far too many sightings and such throughout history to pass it all off as make believe.

Just hope we find out some day, would be cool to learn that they've helped guide us. For instance maybe they taught us how to use metal. I mean how the f*** did anyone figure that out randomly?

There is a lot of "stuff" in the sky because of the old Satellites. There are many broken pieces that are all still floating in the orbid. And also broken pieces of Meteorites. How did the humans figured out about fire? Because we humans have the ability to learn and invent things. Intelligence. There is still no evidence that Aliens were ever here on planet Earth. Maybe someday we will find out.
